Sometimes stress relief methods are pretty tangible: physical exercise, spending time with friends, eating healthy, balanced meals. A less tangible, but by no means less beneficial way to alleviate stress is by living a spiritual path.
Spirituality has many interpretations, yet at its core it helps to provide context for our lives. And it’s not always linked to a particular belief system or worship. Rather, it comes from a deep connection with yourself and with others, grounding yourself in your personal values, your search for meaning.

For many, spirituality does take the form of religious practice, prayer and meditation, or simply a belief in a divine presence. For others, it can be discovered in nature, songs, fine art or a community. Spirituality is different for everyone.
Having a spiritual practice provides many ways to relieve stress and bring balance to your mental and emotional health.
It can help you to-
- Find a sense of purpose. Working with your own spirituality might help you discover what’s most important in your life. By clarifying just what’s essential, you could spend much less time on the unimportant things.
- Feel that you are One with Creation. The more you understand you have a reason to be on the planet, the less alone you feel. This can bring inner peace during the tough times.
- Let go of control. You realize that you aren’t in charge of every little thing that happens when you really feel part of the bigger whole. You can share the bumpy patches as well as the blessings with those around you.
- Widen your support network. Whether your spirituality is based in a religious community, in your household, or in nature walks with your best friend, sharing spiritual expression can help build Connection.
- Live a much healthier life. People who consider themselves spiritual seem much better able to cope with anxiety and quicker to heal physical illness.
So I guess some self-discovery may be in order.
